Conditions on the band are certainly changing right now as winter starts to approach... stations can be heard earlier in the UK and so we are hearing pirates we have never heard before. Names like Lotus, Cowboy Gerard and Ascona have been heard for the first time. Later in the evening, though, conditions have been very up and down, with some stations weaker than usual

It was very nice to hear James Bond a few days ago for the first time in a while and also to hear Luxemburg with an early evening programme, including some great old jingles. On the same evening Meteoor had a fine signal on 1652 and with strong modulation as usual, despite the relative low power

On Saturday we heard De Kruik for the first time, and it was good to hear Turftrekker with a music programme and a nice signal and audio

Boomerang was coming through early in the evening on 1625 on Monday and later even stronger on 1645. Good to hear Ascona for the first time, firstly on 1670 and later on 1665. Albatros was doing very well indeed with 80w on 1675 while testing some antenna modifications. This was the best we have heard him in England so far. The recording we made will feature on the next MW Pirate Review!

Very interesting to listen to Montecarlo on Monday evening. When he first came on air during a qso his antenna was low and his SINPO was 23432. Later he raised the height by 11m and the reception was peaking at 55544. Just goes to show what a difference height can make
