Very busy Saturday night on MW (August 13, 2011)

Greetings from England!

A very busy night on MW this evening with many stations qsoing and a few music programmes as well. Here is what we heard with the Lowe HF225 and outdoor magnetic loop antenna. All times are UTC:

Starting with the stations who were on air with programmes, Oldtimer Radio was heard here for the first time and was coming through very well. Vrolijke Mijnwerker was powerful as usual, firstly on 1634 and then later when qsoing on 1640. Many thanks for the greetings! Combination F16 was very solid indeed, regularly hitting 55555 with powerful and deep modulation. Rebel was doing well with just 50w. There was a lot of interference from surrounding stations, and also one from Greece, but once they had gone off air, Rebel could be heard quite well. Uniek was stable on 1651 with a very long programme and some nice English music that ended at 0346 Dutch time!

Special mention for Orion West, who was on air several times throughout the evening and finally closed down at 2141. At that time the signal was 55555 - incredible for just 60 watts from 2x807 and a 5m high antenna. The recording will feature on my next MW Pirate Review

There were some fine signals from the qso stations, particularly Concordia, who was very strong indeed and with very powerful audio. Spakenburg was also doing very well, and with some nice English talking also. Zomerzon and Dinkelland were also very strong. Interesting to hear Kaimaan for the first time. He was very close to Uniek and was suffering from interference but the signal was fair

Pionier from Rotterdam was in qso with Radio Rob. My log of Rob is a little tentative... I made a recording which I have to listen to, then I will know for sure whether I heard him!

Finally, there was a very interesting broadcast on the band tonight from England, courtesy of Radio Underground. He is better known on shortwave but was testing on 1666 in USB using around 40w and a half-wave dipole antenna. The signal here was good. He has been doing quite a few tests recently, also some broadcasts in AM. Listen out for more....

Man,oh, man , you made me really happy!!!!- I was really flabbergasted, when hearing the records, you send me, really stunning !!!- Now I can understand, why you mailed me : If I didn't had seen the tx myself, I wouldn't believe it.....
For me it proves, the necessity of paying attention to the transmitting times of MalinHead radio at 1677 and Stockholm radio at 1674, otherwise their listeners at sea wouldn't be glad with a fellow like me !
